Chardonnay
Wine
Vasse Felix Chardonnay is sourced from a selection of premier Chardonnay parcels from estate vineyards across Margaret River, including Wilyabrup, Wallcliffe and Karridale.
The fruit is largely Gin Gin clone Chardonnay, with smaller amounts of Bernard clone and Clone 1 fruit. The wine is a blend of handpicked and machine harvested grapes.
The handpicked portion is gently whole bunch pressed and sent to French oak as unclarified juice. The juice from the machine harvested portion is racked to barrel with high solids. All ferments use wild yeasts.
The wine rests on lees for nine months, with lees stirring to improve body and texture. Partial malolactic fermentation balances out the fruit's high natural acidity.
Pale straw green, Vasse Felix Chardonnay is full bodied with a fine linear structure, creamy texture, polished acidity and lingering tannins. Cellaring potential is seven years.
